The Pea Coat

Ahhh, finally a post about the pea coat. Simply put, you need one. You need one in navy with gold buttons and you need it now for the winter. Navy with gold buttons just looks better. Sure you could leave the gold buttons and opt for a more modern approach. You could even disregard navy and choose black or grey. If you do choose to go on one or both of these routes you will be making a mistake. Navy is the color of the pea coat. Gold buttons transform the pea coat to something much better. There is a great youth about a pea coat. Walking around with that popped collar oozes youthful exuberance. This is one of the very few items you will own where it is acceptable to 'pop' the collar. Once again, like all good outerwear, a pea coat will last you for the best part of a decade (I am assuming you take care of your clothing and rotate pieces). A pea coat looks effortless, it is practical as it will keep you warm, and is a british classic. You can't go wrong. Pair you pea coat with a simple white crew neck tee, chinos, and brogues/chelsea boots for a weekend winner. In the words of Kanye West, "...look at his pea coat and tell me he's broke?" That is the last time you will EVER see me quote Kanye West. JB

  2. Reader. Unfortunately I am not 100% certain what PC the gentleman is wearing. However Gieves & Hawkes make an almost identical pea coat that is well worth considering. Good luck with the search. DM101

  4. Do you have any peacoat recommendations (navy, gold buttons) that is <$500. I understand it won't be great quality, but as long as it fits good, I wouldn't mind. Students are not exactly rich :P Thanks! I love the one in the photo, looks perfect!

  6. I bought a used Navy Peacoat at a military surplus store when in school for $40.00. Wore it through college. It always looked snappy and when I finally destroyed it, I was out $40.00.
